Car insurance questions
Discussion
I'm moving to Stamford CT on 1st March, am in the process of sorting out a car for when I get over there.
I have obtained insurance quotes for a 2006 911 Carrera 4. Now whilst I have a clean driving record in the UK with max NCD etc I know that counts for nothing over there and was expecting to pay a fortune. I got a quote through an ex-pats scheme I am a member of - one of the things they offer is car insurance based on your UK record.
Problem is it seems ridiculously cheap considering I am a first time driver in the US. I know it works differently over there and you have to specify different levels of cover - can someone please have a look at what I have been quoted and let me know if its OK or if not what I should ask for:
2006 Porsche 911 Carrera 4
Fully Comprehensive cover (collision, fire, theft, flood etc)
Bodily Injury $100/300,000 ** Per Person/Per Accident
Property Damage $100,000 Each Accident
Medical Payments $5,000
Uninsured Motorist BI $100/300,000 Per person/Accident
Other than Collision $500 Deductible with Full Glass Coverage
Collision $500 Deductible
Towing & Labor $75.00 Per Disablement
Extended Transportation $50 Per Day / Maximum $1,500
Premium is $722 for 6 months cover

I'm not an insurance expert so I cannot comment on the levels of protection you have. Mine is 100/500, and your medical could be a bit low.
Costwise.....it appears ok, I pay less on a Corvette but that is on a multi-car policy with a discount for having home insurance with the same company.
I'm also in New Jersey not CT so that makes a big difference.
I insure through AAA. Equi of UK AA.
PS do not say you are a member of AA, that will double your premium here.(Alcoholics Anon)

I have 100/500 on an 06 Suburban and an 07 300C SRT-8 which costs me $655.70 per 6 months with Geico.
Your medical is WAY too low - check that the figure given is not the deductable!
Make sure you have un-stacked uninsured driver coverage, if you are only insuring one vehicle.
Lots of factors (including your credit rating)affect your premiums here.

Perk number 121 of living in the US - Cheap Car Insurance....
The medical seems a bit low but I guess that is the deductible, just as Matt mentioned. Go to Geico and fill in one of there insurance forms and get a quote, you should come out roughly the same price if not cheaper. I dealt with my insurance agent directly and found from the pricing, its structured differently compared to the UK. The time you have be living in the US or driving on its roads contributes very little to your premium, your age, where you live, how old your vehicle is etc plays much larger roles over here.
