Hi all,
So after paying for an apartment, cars, utilities, if you were left with 1500-2000 dollars (living in New Jersey,) does this allow enough to get by for a young couple with no kids? trying to see if this leaves enough for food shopping, few meals out etc.
I know it's a tricky question but would appreciate any thoughts on that, would like a comfortable lifestyle when we're there.
Thanks!

Ah...disposable income....I remember that...that will not last long
2k is a lot more than most, you will find that eating out is a lot cheaper than UK especially in the lower end places. (Diners and franchises)
I would suggest you go easy on the shopping at first. There is lots of stuff that seems cheap, it's very easy to go overboard.
Next week is Halloween, so you need to go and buy some candy(sweeties) and a big dish or basket. You will get a constant stream of little kids with their parents and dogs ringing your doorbell, if you are lucky you will also get a lot of really cute girls in cheerleader get ups and sometimes bikinis.
Or if you are really eager to get rid of that 2K/month may I suggest a trip down to Kerbecks in Palmyra. I'll let you google that

$1500 - 2000 sounds a reasonable sum, you won't be hitting NYC restaurants ten's time a month on that but I guess it depends on what floats your boat.
Plenty of fun places in NNJ for $50 - 75 a head including booze. In my neck of the woods there are several restaurants which are BYOB thanks to local liquor license restrictions, very reasonable without a drinks bill.
Thanks all, I think as long as we can eat out a couple of times a week, have food and drink in the cupboards we'll be happy! not looking to hit NYC ten times a month by any stretch of the imagination!
Just as long as we aren't struggling out there and not enjoying ourselves, good to hear that we shouldn't be!
