importing cars to canada
Discussion
Whilst I'm in the UK for the next year, i'm thinking about picking up a classic(morgan or landy series 3) to take back to Canada with me, from what I can see if it's older than 15 years should be ok (notwithstanding a huge amount od paperwork) Any one here done this recently? any tips gratefully recieved

You'll want to look at this at both the federal and provincial levels; there's a few things that will get in your way importing a car to Canada.
If your car is older than 15 years old, you fall under the 15+ year exemption. There's a nice article on Canadian Driver where they tried to import a black cab here.
If your car is newer than 15 years old, you can still import it federally. Check out the Registrar of Imported Vehicles website, RIV.ca, for a checklist as well as information on fees, special considerations for your specific vehicle, and whether or not it's federally admissible for registration at all. RIV will likely have information on importing 15 year old cars, but I can't see it after a cursory check - the popular pressure on the government about the horribly unfair new car prices here have made them refocus on giving advice about importing new cars from the US.
After that you'll want to look up your province's specific details on bringing in a car; some have "out of province inspections" which you'll need to pass.
Good luck!

Just to clarify: importing a car from any country other than the United States means the vehicle MUST be 15 years old or older. Nothing newer than that is allowed. If it's from the US, then the RIV Admissable list applies where you will find many newer models allowed. You can broker the car yourself, but mistakes can be costly and cause much grief. Brokerage charges are pretty cheap and eliminate any hassles.
