We're looking for something good, leaning towards boutiquey, in the Union Square area, for 3 nights early September. There seems to be a ton of options - and I'm getting fed up of the internet now! Any real world recommendations gratefully received!

Hi Andrew,

I spent three nights in the Orchard Hotel (name easily confused with it's sister hotel, the Orchard Garden Hotel!) in June - couldn't fault it and it was sensibly priced. Parking is nearby at Union Square if you need it but not particularly cheap. We chose this based pretty much soley on trip advisor reviews.

Our room rate came to £320 ish inc. taxes etc and included Wifi, room was clean and reasonably sized, bed pretty comfy. We were on the 5th or 6th floor and street noise wasn't a problem.

Enjoy your trip!

Stayed at The Clift a couple of times, corner of Geary and Taylor.

Was a couple of years ago though so don't know what it's like now and can't remember how far it is from Union Square but might be worth a look.

There's only one place I would stay in SF now, the Hotel Adagio on Geary

It's a good location, and the best bit is that if you get the parking package then valet is included as well - I was there a couple of months ago and paid $105 a night including the parking, for which most hotels charge $40 a night plus.

Sadly I can't find any pictures of the room, but it was huge, flat screen TV, marble bathroom etc.

Highly recommended.

Thanks everyone!

Conde Nast recommends this place, any experiences?

We have always quite liked http://www.kimptonhotels.com/hotels/hotels-sanfran...

They have quite a few places in San Fran now, but I have only stayed at the Argonaut. They are usually pretty decent and not overly pricey.
