After a bit of the collective PH knowledge on Denver if possible.
I've been living in New York for the last 15 months and have seen a new job opportunity with my firm in our Denver office. The job looks great and moves me into an area I really want to go into, but not too sure if moving to Denver will be a good idea.
As the username suggests, I'm really into my skiing so that benefit speaks for itself, as does the love of mountain biking in the summer. But what I really want to know, is what is Denver like as a city to live in? Are the people friendly and welcoming? Is there much to do other than ski/bike? What is the cost of living like?
Any experience with Denver or knowledge welcomed.
Thanks
Rich

Denver? Boring, but given that it sounds like a great career move and you love the mountains year-round, I think it is, as they say here, a "no-brainer". Go. Simple as that. I live in Houston, which is like Denver except worse and not near the mountains. If you don't want the job, let me know what it is and I'll have it. Is that any help? Good luck!
Rich,
I have friends in Denver and I've been there a few times as well. People are friendly enough. If you know the area you want to live in, I could probably tell you what the general opinion is.
Feel free to send me email if you wish. I would be glad to help. I also happen to know a few expert skiers as well, so I can definitely give you specific information about the mountains in Summit county (where most of the ski resorts are) and anything else you would most likely want to know!

I lived in Denver for 4.5 years (I'm British) in my late 20's) and then moved on to NYC before returning home 4 years ago.
Denver is a really manageable city on foot - not so small that there's nothing going (normal football, hockey, baseball, basketball all downtown) but with the mountains only an hour away.
I used to love a little ways outside the city but could still make it downtown on the light rail in undr 20 mins and could be on the slopes less than 90 mins after waking up in the winter
Plenty of restaurants and bars etc but nowhere near the selection there are in NYC obviously.
Shockingly, cost of living is ever so slightly less than Manhattan even if right in the heart of downtown......... I owned a townhouse which was new build and 1250sqft for only around $175K.
Monthly rent downtown for a 1 bed was around $1,200 IIRC.
The people I met were on the whole very friendly and most intersted in my accent - never came across any bad people TBH.......
Guess it depends on what you want and how old you are - a great community being built on the site of the old airport out at Stapleton which is great for families (I know a few who live there)

lived in denver for 6years (am a brit and now back home since 98) my brother and lot of mates (all brits) still live there and i go for a visit once every one or two years. untold bars ln lodo and game days (rockies/nuggets/broncos) are particularly good down there.
some fantastic bars on east colfax including Atomic cowboy, irish snug and streets of london to name a few.
Cherry creek area good for shops, bars and restaurants, and malls are good if that is your bag.
The rocky mountain are the clincher, as a skier and mountain biker a well as custom chop rider.....can't top it.
Only thing i missed was not being able to drive to the ocean (approx 15-17hr drive) but that was just me being an islander at heart !!
lived in L.A. before and texas and whilst the ocean was good, i found the whole L.A. thing too "Jonesy" and Dallas was a good party town.....but not much else.
You get Four proper seasons in Colorado....not many places like that in the world let alone the states!!
Good luck fella
