I'm in the process of applying to the BUNAC Work America scheme, which will hopefully grant me a J1 VISA allowing me to work in the country for a period of up to four months.

I'm desperate to work in Hawaii, but so far I haven't heard back from any of the jobs I've applied for. I've phoned a few hotel chains up but not had much luck there either.

I just had a quick google at summer jobs in LA and some came up in the film industry, which I have a great interest in, but all of the ones I've seen are unpaid internships, which is no good for me.

The company that I'm applying with has a job directory, which is my backup plan. The only downside is that there jobs are predominantly on the East Coast. I don't know what jobs they have to offer yet as I haven't received the directory.

So yeh, I'm really looking forward to this and will enjoy working anywhere, but would like to work somewhere hot with some amazing beaches nearby. Would be nice if the girls were up to standard as well.

Many thanks for any help.

Waiting in line for my coffee today I heard the girl in front of me ask if Starbucks were taking on (at the Fishermans Warf branch).
Answer was yes.

Best I can do.

I know of a few places hiring at the moment in San Diego. Unfortunately they're all Veterinary focused. If you would be interested I could also inquire into a job with a very well established florist. I did BUNAC when I was at UNI and went off to Toronto Canada for 4 months and loved every second of it. I would say that BUNAC are useful for arranging the visa but that's about it.

My advice would be to check out local listings on Craigslist.org and see what tickles your fancy. LA sounds better than it actually is, you WILL need a car to get around and a lot of areas are dodgy.

Recommend Newport Beach area or Huntingdon beach both in Orange County. I live in Oceanside San Diego County and love it. 10 minute drive to gorgeous beaches, 20 mins to San Diego and to answer a very important question...

Yes the women are very fit.

Having spent 10 days in California last summer, I would agree with Mr Fenix above - obviously I have very limited experience!

LA is a vast area and I found the places you wanted to be were often no where near each other with lots places you didn't want to be in between. If we hadn't have had a car we would really have been struggling.

I had a couple of days in Laguna Beach and surrounding areas and also San Diego, both of these I found to be much more relaxed and generally nicer places to spend time, the Gaslamp district of San Diego was always buzzing and is full of bars and restaurants so there must be plenty of seasonal jobs there I would of thought.

I wouldn't want to spend 3 or 4 months in Los Angeles - 4 days was enough for me, but from my experiences of the parts of Orange County I visited and certainly San Diego I can imagine living and working there would be much more fun.
