Kit car laws,getting a car on the road for the first time.

If I wanted to design and sell my own 'Kit' car in the States, are there any stringent laws I would have to adhere to? Obviously there would be good safety features in the design, are there any single vehicle checks that would have to be carried out by the authorities before you can go on the road? Cheers..

I would get in touch with the folks at SEMA. However, these sorts of matters tend to be based on State law, rather than Federal.
