A friend of a friend is moving over from the USA to the UK permenently and will have UK residency. HE is bringing his Pontiac over and myself and my friend are finding it impossible to find and insurance companys to cover him. They either want 3yrs residency, uk license, uk car, garage or all four! Anyone else know of anyone in this situation that could help i would be very grateful

I would have thought that if the car was being imported to the UK permanently that it will have to go through the SVA test.

Once this has been done and your friend has the correct certification, the car can be registered in properly and taxed etc. Once this has been done insurance shouldn't be a problem with the likes of A-Plan or Adrian Flux.

You should be able to do the same as i did moving the other way, get a proof of insurance history letter from his previous US insurer, this should help too.
