picked up a ticket courtesy of a Nevada trooper last september. has anyone had experience of returning to the USA (same state/ different state) with an unpaid ticket against their name?

Shouldn't be an issue getting back in, just behave yourself this time because if you get picked up again they will have you for the first offense too, well in the same state for sure, different state you'll be ok, unless the ticket was issued whilst you were driving a Federal bank robbery getaway car.

I got a speeding ticket in AZ in 1996. I came to CA to live in 2003. No problems with my visa and getting into the country but when I tried to get my licence, DMV still had a record of the 1996 ticket and put a block on my application until I paid it (to the AZ sheriff office, not DMV). Luckily they'd only added £20 to the ticket since I'd received it!

An unpaid ticket can result in a bench warrant for your arrest within the state of Nevada. You might want to think about paying the ticket, if you plan on going back.

Immigration gates at the international ports of entry have all your info at the agents fingertips. if the agent at the port of entry decides on a whim to scroll your file, you'll be toast. I'd advise you to pay the ticket and make sure that the warrant has been rescinded otherwise you could get nicked by the agent you present your documents to.

if i'm thinking of ever working your side one day (/year!), guess it would be best to play by the rules!

You should be able to pay a state ticket online with your credit card. Google nevada traffic ticket or something similar. I had a look, if the ticket was in Clark County, you can pay here: http://www.co.clark.nv.us/ClarkCountyCourts/lvjc/t...

The good news is that most of the time tickets reach a reasonable monetary limit, even after a few years.
You may also be banned from driving under any license in the state of Nevada until you get the (likely) state driving suspension cleared (for failure to appear/pay), which is another matter, clearable (probably for a fee) after your ticket is paid. I would inquire at the phone numbers given on the website. I also agree, you'd best get it done prior to trying to get thru customs, it would be a bad deal to be left standing there, no place to go but back home. As to driving, you could prrrooobably get away with it, but if you were to get pinched, it will be another ballgame altogether.

Were you in a rental.
Normally the rental firm is required to pay the fine.
This happened to me in Florida last year.
I got a bill from the rental firm and have been back to the US, various states, 10 times since, no problem
