Help! Renting a car in Calgary

Looking for inspiration! I'm visiting Calgary with my family between 2nd July and 15th July. First 8 days in Banff and from 10th to 15th in Calgary (for the stampede). I've been to Vancouver (friend there) and the states quite a few times. Left booking late but sorted flights and accommodation now BUT no cars available to hire. Need something from the 2nd to the 10th (don't need one whilst in Calgary - just for the Banff bit). Well, there is a minivan at 8,000 Canadian dollars!
The only alternative I can think of is buying one, sorting insurance (or getting added to existing - been driving for 30 years, clean licence and used to driving in Canada), then asking a kind hearted soul (or a dealer) to sell it again for me. Will likely cost a few K bucks in depreciation for 8 days of car use but I can't think of much else - hence this post.
