Help with Uni choice - N&S Carolina
Discussion
I'm looking for some advice on two US universities.
My son, who's currently studying History at Warwick, has the chance to add a year's extra study in the US for 2022-23.
He's been offered the choice of either the University of North Carolina - Charlotte or University of South Carolina.
Does anyone have any experience of either university? Or, do you know of any reliable independent information that will help him make an informed decision?
Thank you.

UNC has a more prestigious reputation within the US but both are good choices. Questions to consider which can also help you decide :My son, who's currently studying History at Warwick, has the chance to add a year's extra study in the US for 2022-23.

Hi, this will be of limited help but I work with a number of people that have done a Masters degree in Raleigh, North Carolina in their mid-20s and absolutely loved their time there. They speak very fondly of the place and still support the Wolfpack - College (American) football is huge out here.
They were also foreign students but from India.
I’ve never heard of anybody studying in South Carolina.
I was very well travelled as a child but wish I’d had the opportunity in my 20’s to actually immerse myself in a different culture and think it would be very beneficial to your son.

I live in Charleston SC. It’s hard core USC and Clemson territory. I have several friends and colleagues who went to USC but a while ago. Some may have kids there now lol. Send me a PM and maybe I can give you some input.
Columbia isn’t a great city in general but it’s a fairly good Uni. Charlotte is a fairly large city and a bit more progressive than Columbia. I know a Brit on here who lives in NC so maybe get his input. Charlotte has direct flights to Gatwick I think for what it’s worth.
I have an old U.K. Uni friend here who as part of his Masters did a year at Clemson in 1996 and he never went back to the U.K.
Where in the U.K. are you? I’m visiting tomorrow and heading to the NEC Classic Car Show.
