Monterrey, Mexico to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Discussion
As a bit of man maths to "save myself some money" on my flights back to the UK at Christmas, I've decided to drive from where I live in Monterrey, Mexico to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, over the course of about 4 days. I've been to the states a few times before but aren't familiar with most of the areas I'll be passing through. Any recommendations for things to see / places to stay / things to do?

I doubt you will have any time other than sleep or being on the road. That is a vast distance and with rain may take longer. Good luck with the mileage.
The dates are flexible, I could extend it to 6/7 days if necessary. I calculated we’d have enough time for half a day or so in New Orleans and Miami but could take longer if that would be better. I’ve done these sorts of trips in terms of distance before with no issues but I don’t know a lot about the weather etc around Florida at that time of year. There's a lot to see. What are you interested in? Lots of natural preserves, wild animal sanctuaries, and gorgeous beaches and resorts in Fl. I am sure there are concerts and events in Miami. The Keys are great, as is the drive to the Keys, but after your long haul I am not sure you would want to do more driving. Maybe get to one of the first few Keys and go snorkeling? Lots of good food. Cubano culture. Art scene. Clubs.
And then there's New Orleans. Party. Drink. Dance. Jazz. History. Plays.

I'm fairly open to anything really: I'm not a massive fan of wandering around museums for hours, and I will be trying to keep the driving to a minimum although could be tempted by the snorkeling as I haven't done it in years. After having done a bit of research, I think I'm pretty sorted for New Orleans: there's a lot of bars and restaurants I'd like to visit which should take up most of the time, plus I'd like to walk around the French areas. And then there's New Orleans. In Miami, I'd love to eat in a decent Cuban place and spend some time on the beach, but beyond that I'm not sure what's around. I've decided to extend the trip to around 6 days to give me more time to explore, so I am leaning towards heading out to the keys despite the driving.

Dates?
In New Orleans, cafe du monde.
Space center in Houston?
Po Boy in Louisiana?
See the mermaids of Weeki Wachi?
Party in Miami Beach?
Thanks for those suggestions! We just got back actually, did all of the above apart from the space centre and the mermaids, plus quite a lot more. Had a fantastic time and would happily do it again: no issues with weather or delays or anything like that.In New Orleans, cafe du monde.
