What would be nice is if you could easily find stations with ethanol free!

I'm looking to make the drive this Summer but the logistics of planning a route to include petrol (gas!) stations with high octane fuel is not so simple. Any suggestions or sites that could help? And, no, boot is not big enough for cans for the 4700km journey
I can't believe you'd have any trouble at all finding super unleaded on your drive. The US uses AKI, which is RON+MON/2, where as the UK just uses RON, so the numbers are lower. In California and some other states, the highest grade is 91 octane, everywhere else it's 93. 91 can't be bad for your car otherwise Aston Martin and everyone else would have to sell special engines to Californian customers, which they definitely don't.Between my personal car and the various press cars I drive that all require super unleaded, I haven't ever come across a situation where I got to a petrol station and couldn't find the right grade petrol. And you'll be glad to know we have Shell and BP here in the US.
If you're looking for something more potent, you're SOL but it's not like there's any actual benefit, since the ECU would alter the timing and you'd actually get worse fuel mileage, which is probably not what you're after if you're doing a drive of that length.
