Green cards arrived!
Discussion
At last, today our physical Green cards arrived for my wife and I. It's been a long road, although not as long as some, but so pleased. It's been a lifelong ambition to live and work here and now I'm under no restriction. Previously I was on an L1-B visa.
For anyone that is interested:
Initial PERM application - November 14th 2014
I-140 & I-485 filed jointly - June 16th 2015
I-140 approved - October 13th 2015
I-485 approved - October 28th 2015
Green cards arrived November 4th 2015

Well done..
I started about 3 years before you and still waiting.
Had biometrics last month, now waiting for interview and advanced parole
Also on L1B, my 5 years are up at the end of November 2015. No leaving USA from then on until advanced parole approved. I have my form 797 giving general GC acceptance.
The waiting is the killer, although fully funded and handled by the company and their Attorney.
I even bought the 2015 Mustang GT to be ultra American...!

How come it is taking so long for you? Mine was also funded by the company. I was worried being EB3 that it would take years, but it seemed to go quite quickly. Agree the waiting in painful, especially when the company goes through layoffs!I started about 3 years before you and still waiting.

Interesting; I had my biometrics June 28th 2010, card production ordered July 27th, approval letter 29th and got the card itself August 5th 2010.I started about 3 years before you and still waiting.

Never had to do an interview, and I was L1B as well.
You're not far out now, check the mailbox every day

My PERM was filed September 18th 2009, and as above, got the card itself August 5th, 2010 - interesting to see the timing was very similar.I was EB2, I think; seems to have saved me a month
The waiting wasn't fun, especially when nothing seems to happen for months on end...
People should give some thought to taking the extra step of taking citizenship.
Along with obligatory partial lobotomy you open yourself up to lifetime income tax on world wide income.
Plenty of US Citizens are ditching their citizenship and setting up in Monaco etc.(you need to be rich for that option)
A green card gives you all you need, with no jury service, no conscription (unlikely, but possible)and no lifetime tax liability.
Strangely enough they said I wouldn't need the lobotomy

Also, US green card allows "fast lane" through customs in US, and EU passport allows "fast lane" through customs in UK. Maybe only a minor consideration, but there it is.Along with obligatory partial lobotomy you open yourself up to lifetime income tax on world wide income.

Any non-US citizen (including legal permanent resident) may be subject to deportation, of course.
Having lived here for 15 years, I'm about to become a US citizen (next month, assuming I can remember who my state senator is and which Staes border Canada etc...)
I'm too old to be drafted and not worldly wealthy enough to worry about overseas income (aside from amy puny UK state pension, which may not exist by the time I get to claim it).
Having both US and UK passport is handy for my extensive work travels.

Just had notification of the transfer of my case to another processing centre.
Due to delays, overloading and speed of process.
So... A couple of weeks delay for my I485 paperwork to get there, then a few more weeks to approve.
My driving license expires in 2 weeks, I have no paperwork to support my stay in USA, green card I485 is submitted but DMV won't know that
Anyone had a similar experience...?

Did you make copies of all of the documentation you sent to USCIS? Given their proficiency in losing st, don't send ANYTHING to these clowns without making copies first.Due to delays, overloading and speed of process.

I think this very subject was a point of discussion on www.britishexpats.com - though not in NC. If I recall correctly, the DMV involved accepted photo-copies of the I485 and both sides of the green card after a bit of negotiation.

Yup. Same reason I have not naturalized—well, that and the fact that the flag waving ceremony is mandatory.Along with obligatory partial lobotomy you open yourself up to lifetime income tax on world wide income.

Driving license sorted, No issues. They just gave me another year, taking a quick sign and eye test.
Not really interested in documents.. All a bit casual tbh.
On another note, my EAD and advanced parole was approved today, waiting for the card to come.
Has anybody actually used the card for exit / re-entry to the US after travel..?
USCIS site states that it allows reentry under a Parole status but does not guarantee permission to enter.

Woohoo, Green Cards arrived today.. Permanent Resident..
It has all gone rather quickly at the end, transfer of case to Nebrasks office, advanced parole cards arrive, Perm approval given, then 4 days later GC arrives in the post.
Almost 5 years to the day after I set foot in USA for good. After a complete company fau pas, with my visa category, we were forced to follow the EB3 application rather than EB2 (manager). But we are there now, the company paid all sponsor fees, applications and attorney charges.. So they must like something about me
