Hello all, new member.

I stumbled on to this site while researching the methods of tuning the new-to-me, Dellorto DHLA40-H carbs that I just installed onto my freshly, refreshed 1975 BMW 2002 motor.. the best answer I found on the internets came from ELAN2, a guy here in the states... which got me thinking.

I have found that tuning bits for the main and idle jetting of Dellortos is 1. expensive to 'stock'. and 2. non existent for purchase in the US. Which led to 3. an idea.

I realize that what I am formulating in my head requires a level of trust that can only be gained through commonality and accountability within a highly visible on-line community (like me at the www.bmw2002faq.com), or among the live peoples. But considering the topic, we would have to live with simply trusting folks we will most likely never know in person, and rely on the fervor for things we have in common to be our bond. Tuning Dellorto DHLA Carburetors.

that being said..

I'm imagining a Dellorto DHLA Traveling Tuning Kit (Or, DTK). With a full assortment of air correctors and jets. Once a particular guy has his carbs dialed in with the kit, he orders what he needs and replaces the parts from the DTK. He then stores it until contacted, and the next person pays shipping to use the kit. Repeat. Thus forming a network of US based users that can trade parts, trade info, and trade excitement for a dying craft.

I know this is pretty much a call into outer space, and probably a pipe dream. But maybe we can build a kit through donation of used bits from the veteran tuners out there. And then each user could donate to the DTK's needs when that order is placed over the pond, for his own tuning needs.

I would be happy to build a foam case that keeps everything safely categorized and isolated, with room for small boxes of o-rings, gaskets and fasteners.

For those of you that are Facebook enabled, I just created a group for Dellorto DHLA owners..
