Heads-up when changing cars
Discussion
Here's something which has spoiled my day today.
I'm living in Ontario, and I'm part-exchanging my car *today*. (2004 Acura TSX to new Prius - not the most PH change ever, but not the point.) I've arranged to be at the dealer this evening.
On my way to work this morning, I'm pulled over by the cops. APNR (Automated Number Plate Recognition) showed that my plates should already be on the other car - the dealer's obviously done the paperwork, which seems reasonable. Except the cops want to know if it's a stolen vehicle, etc. End result is that I have a ticket for operating my current car without a valid plate, which the cop says I can go to the courthouse to 'explain to the prosecutor' to get rescinded. Thanks!
So, the lesson is this. If you're trading in a car, and having the dealer take care of the plate transfer, ask *exactly* when the transfer will take place. Big Brother *is* watching you.
