If a new product was introduced to the US market which had the same name as an established and trademarked US product or company, but both in very different industries, would this likely lead to a successful legal challege from the established outfit?

Bank on being sued heavily. Even enormous companies have had different product names in the US to avoid this and you should not try to make yourself the exception.
