Complete ignorance on the subject, but isn't that Kindergarten age in the US? Doesn't elementary school start at 5?

Florida educational standards are not great, be it in public or private schools. Be prepared to have extra coaching on hand or additional home education because should you return to the UK you may well find your child behind English standards in geography, English, history and languages.

Same here in northern Illinois - so many Mexicans who do not understand my English accent.

Yes, I was fully aware of this. When the time is right, I'll certainly be arranging geography and history tutors for my daughter - don't wanting her being a typical American Idiot. And in 13 years time, I'll also make sure she passes her driving test in a jurisdiction where you actually have to demonstrate an ability to drive a car wink

I was in the states until 4th grade, and I had none of those problems. I'm certainly no genius, but I was in the top classes for everything through school after my parents moved back to the UK. I'd argue their education system is better. Maybe not everywhere of course. I was in a nice neighbourhood in Cincinnati, OH.

As for driving a car, you're very right about that hehe

It's called pre-Kindergarten in some areas of the country for the age group in question.

One great thing about the US is that they do like to publish statistics, so if you are intending to move to a general area you can find the area that has the best schools in a relatively straightforward way.

Some areas have schools which are just plain appalling so you might want to look further afield to live, find a good value independent school or both.

With this attitude, I'm sure you'll be a big hit in Miamis social circles.
