May well be spending a week in Toronto in May. Other than a few days work, any recommendations on what to do and where to stay?

Landing at Pearson, and working close to the 'entertainment, fashion and financial' districts.

Any thoughts most welcome.

I would go up the CN tower and maybe visit Niagara Falls if you can. I would look at visiting the Distillery district and just roam the city.

Baseball in the Toronto Skydome. Some excellent restaurants, good museums and the islands are very relaxing. Stay downtown. Fairmont Royal oak is the biggest downtown 'glam' hotel, Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons are very nice too. I like the Westin Harbor Towers.

Loads to do from a water park through to the Hockey Hall of Fame, a zoo, roller coasters, Science Museum and loads of live music and comedy. Good bars and beer pubs too.

If you are around May 18th to 20th, have a rental car and want some motorsports you could go to Mosport, about an hour east of Toronto. They have their Victoria Day Speedfest weekend event.

www.mosport.com

The event includes:

NASCAR Canadian Tire Series
SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am
Castrol Touring Car Championship
Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada
F1000 Pro Series

I guess there is the question to ask before we all give you too many recommendations; what is it that you like to do when abroad? From there some of us may have some bright ideas for you.

Cheers,

Rob.

Allens restaurant on the Danforth is a good unpretentious place with excellent beer and a nice patio.Great for lunch.

Walk around Yorkville at the weekend. Lots of activity there and often amazing cars.

Try a walk in Chinatown along Spadina.

On Saturdays the Porsche and Vette guys often grab a coffee West of the city. PM me if you want details.

If you are into oysters and lobster Rodneys Oyster house is simply brilliant with a huge selection of East and West coast oysters, lobster and crab. No winelist beyond basics but good beer.

The museums and art gallery are definitely third rate so do not bother.

I was there a few years ago and was surprised (based on how the UK is) that the place pretty well shuts down on Sunday. We took the ferry to the Island park, and even that didn't start running until 1PM, but I just looked at the schedule and looks like it runs from much earlier now.

Thanks Guys, some great suggestions.

Probably going there with my g\f, so I'll be free in evenings and at the weekend. Want to enjoy the nightlife, and somewhere cool to explore at the weekend. Plus some things for g/f to do during the day, i.e., where to go around town...

Weather should be nice by then, Yorkville is a good shopping district with decent restraunts and such - but tends to be a little on the high end. If your girl friend (or you for that matter) wants a little more of an arts flare to the shopping, somewhat more reasonable price point, and some interesting bars (for example the Bovine Sex Club) you could try Queen Street West.

Not wanting to hijack your thread but we're going there for 3 weeks in September with a 16month old, has anybody got any suggestions as to where to go/what to do?

Cheers

I'd do everything that people have listed that you feel you can do with a 16 month old is probably the best answer.

You might want to take in some of the Lake Ontario / Lake Erie coast and have effectively a beach holiday. You could also go up to the Lake Huron shore which many people from Toronto do. It's very picturesque.

That's a good idea- knew about the lakes but never even considered they might have beaches! cheers
