Me and a few friends are planning a trip to LA next year and are going to be looking at putting a deposit down for a holiday package in the next couple of months. So need to start thinking about what area we want to stay in.

Going to be flying into LAX and want to stay in a hotel that's a good distance to a lot of the clubs/bars as well as not to far from the beach. We'll be renting a car so transportation won't be a problem when we can drive, but when we go out to have a few drinks we'll be taking a taxi from the hotel and to places and back again so don't really want it to be more than about half an hour drive to and from.

Just the area name would be helpful but any 3-4 star hotels in the area would be helpful.

Cheers.

Hi Animala,
I normally stay in Santa Monica (Holiday Inn Colorado Ave) or Burbank (again a Holiday Inn on North Angelino Ave).
There are plenty of Marriotts, Hiltons etc to choose from.
I not into clubs so not much help there but I think theres plenty of night life in Santa Monica.
I'd recommend a visit to 'The Sunset Restaurant' 6800 Westward Beach Rd. in Malabu for a good dinner and drink.
They do a good English fry up at the 'Ye Old Kings Head' in SM for those hangover mornings.

PS, Just remembered I got an invite to a club one evening while sat at the bar in my hotel in Burbank.
Very pretty girl invited me to go with her as it was Porno Karioki evening wink

Yes I would have to say Santa Monica is a great base of operation and there are numerous hotels walking distance to the water when you get a more concrete idea of what you want to do PM me and I will be happy to give you a few of my observations

May be a little late on the party, but the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills is a great hotel. Lots within walking distance for Beverly Hills and taxi's to the area. Also the SLS is a good hotel i hear. A little niche' but good.

W Hotel, Westwood - central, but quiet location, very good bar.
I have intergalactic Starwood status, so they always give me a suite, but all of the rooms are nicely appointed and spotlessly clean.

Depends on your age wink

If I were below mid thirties and going with mates then Manhatten Beach without fail. You are within easy drive of everywhere but the stuff that is in walking distance is perfect. More chilled beach, nice bars and lots of mature students and young professionals.

If going with the wife or a little older then Shutters or the Mondrian are lovely.

But I suspect that as you are going with a bunch of mates then the hotel is actually unimportant as a Best Western will do but it's choosing the area?

Beverly Hills isn't really right for a lads trip. Too staid. I'd opt for Santa Monica if you want trendy bars and clubs etc or head south to Hermosa and Manhatten beach for something less pretentious and I think more fun.
