Following on the from the used cars expensive thread, what PHer type motors represent good value, both new and used? From what I've ascertained so far:

On the used front the Pontiac G8 (aka Holden Commodore/Vauxhall VXR8) seem like good buys as do Cadillac STS-V's, and going a bit older '02 onward Infinity Q45's are good bang for your buck. Chrysler SRT8 products currently seem overpriced frown

On the new front, Jaguar XF 5.0 ltr for $599 a month seem like a steal compared to the competition (as do all Jag products) and also Cadillac CTS-V Wagons are possibly a cunning buy.

Any other thoughts?

The possibilities are endless, and honestly if you want new you could do an awful lot worse than look at the Car and Driver 10 best. Something for every pocket.

For secondhand I'm a fan of Craigslist, prices are noticeably more realistic than on e-bay.

Just be aware that as you've 'just got off the boat' your insurance premiums will be sky high, and just understand that they quote on a 6 month basis in the states.

So in my search, I've ruled out the Jeep SRT8 as they're a little on the small side inside and for what I'm looking to spend, can only get early ones with highish miles that have likely been thrashed. Hey ho.

So moving on with a similar theme the Chevy Trailblazer SS (the one with the Corvette engine) appeared on my radar andn they're almost as quick, are bigger inside and also better value. Had a look at a few and they look cool but unfortunately have a truly ghastly and crappy quality interior seemingly made from old wheelie bins yuck They did drive quite nicely but ultimately I couldn't hack the ste interior. Hey ho aswell.

So prettty much resigned to the fact that a "sports truck" was not going to happen, and anything European is just silly money I kind of lost the will to keep looking for anything vaguely interesting.....

....until this popped up on my radar.....

Saab 9-7x Aero

It's basically a Trailblazer SS (so has the 'vette engine thumbup ) with the wrinkles ironed out and a far better interior....and they seem ridiculously good value for money and all have the balance of a 6yr/100k mile bumper to bumper warranty.

Before I go any further down this road, why are these such good vfm? Is it because they're rare/unknown or not very good? As they're a polished Trailblazer SS which generally get good reviews, what's the catch?

That would be hilarious but given the appaling condition of most older vehicles still on the road, I dread to think what horrors lie beneath that cool in a cheezy way bodywork.

Don't worry just be cool - actually you would need to get a wide brimmed fur hat to match - or maybe some horns for the front

your not going around any bends or ever traveling fast enough to do any harm to yourself or anyone else.

I came close to buying something similar when I lived in canada, but ended up with a cracking old XJ cherokee - figured with 6 months of snow per year that it might be more sensible!
