No, not a welder who is a hit with the ladies.... I have a broken M12 bold thread in my block, I am going to try to drill it and then easy-out it, if that fails does anyone know someone in the SE with a stud welder?? It is a tool which welds a rod to a broken bolt so it can be wound out. You touch the special rod to the bold head which fires a spot weld in connecting the two. You the wind the broken bolt out via the new bit. Annoyingly I know someone who has one BUT I have completely forgotten who if is!!!! Anyone?

Is the stud flush or below or above the surface?

I used to use one of the stud welders years ago, they (then) put a copper stub onto stainless steel, but the strength of the stud weld wasn't always that strong.

Can you get any heat onto it?

Hi Harry, it about 5-10mm below the surface, horizontal M12 bolt into the Aluminium Yamaha R1 block. I could give it a little heat, was going to just use my blowlamp if I use the easi-out.

Thanks guys, I had to get a bit Medievil with it!!! But with a tap ran back through the thread, it is now perfect again. Cheers. Access was limited due to me not wanting to remove the engine, and only minimal bloodshed / skinloss occured...
