Seems Essex has the most deprived area in the whole country.....Jaywick.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2011/mar/29/jayw...

I drove to Jawick a couple of summers ago after a bit of a day out on the Essex coast (which I love). I thought I had memories of going there as a youngster after the standard visit to family in Clacton / Holland-on-sea.

What a suprise that was. Felt like Beirut or a strange version of Deliverance. Doors locked and a quick about turn!

An utter toilet and the most horrid place I have ever visited. I'm suprised it has taken this long to get noticed!

Isn't this down to the council planning dept and the people who live there, I heard it was incredible hard to get planning for anything, that’s why there are few businesses and hence no money being generated and the place is full of oap's who are so stuck in their ways they all protest about rumours of a chip shop opening biggrin

yes The Brooklands estate - with all the roads named after famous racing cars from the 1920s and 30s. Sounds interesting eh? Maybe the sort of place a Ph'er could spend a happy hour or so wandering round the exclusive development of detached beachside properties... Errr nah.

When I last drove down the road that faces the sea wall it felt just like a war zone. I even locked the doors. My passenger pointed out that the roof was down!

All I could hear were lines from Deliverence going round and round in my head!

The above is the Mrs

Every now and then you have to do as you are told, this seemed a good idea at the time, me being told what nice place on the coast it was.
Lets just say even (and I dont think I will be) if I am asked again, I will not go back yuck

Be my guest - but probrably be safer to streetview it. A working car that's roadworthy and legal will be a real novelty for the locals and will attract attention and stares from all their 3 eyes. If nothing else 'tho a drive round Brooklands will almost certainly help you realise that wherever you live is not so bad after all.

Whilst there check out the caravan parks at St Osyth and Point Clear - Trailertrashtastic.

Love the video. Even the better is my local (in Clacton), with the 'friends and regulars' sign outside!

Despite what you might think, although it's spit and sawdust, it's not a bad pub!
