So, my daughter informs me that somehow we've managed to import end of school 'Proms' from the good 'ole U.S of A. I blame SKY.
Mum is doing 'Dress and fancy stuff'
Dad (that'll be me then) is organising the transport.

My S4 Avant isn't going to cut the mustard, so i was thinking of hiring a V8 Vantage Roadster or something similar for the weekend (oh hell, i'll just HAVE to drive!)
But NO - it turns out this is a bad idea on several counts:
1 - Hiring a V8 Vantage Roadster is BLOODY expensive!
2 - Beloved offspring has announced that transport must include her prom-date as well (2 seater out then)
3 - She also informs me that she doesn't want anything too 'posh' i.e. not the usual Limo type thing.

Has anyone any ideas/recommendations for something a bit different?
Required in July in the Maldon / Chelmsford area.

Maser Quat has to be the best option then.

I took my ex-partners son to his prom in a VW splitscreen camper. Left field choice I grant you, but it went down well and stood out from all the usual bling. Lots of these old VWs around, but not as prom transport. Get one with safari windows, officially the coolest thing in the universe.

Prom! Tell me about - £300 for a dress!!!!

Thankfully, my cherub has a wise head on her shoulder and has taken up my friend's offer of his Land Rover with old MOD trailer that will be decked out like the wedding episode of Gavin and Stacey. She's working on the principal that everyone else will be turning up in a limo so at least they'll give the Landy a second glance!

As I'm local I'll happily offer the Noble if the dates tie up(prob can't do first 2 weeks of July) but only 2 seats.

I came out of the bank one day and a woman I'd never seen in my life before ran over to me and said:
"I'm so glad I saw you, I've been trying to catch you for a while. My daughter has her prom soon and I was wondering if you could take her there in your car? You would have to pick her up from her friends house where they are all meeting and run her down to the prom, would you mind doing it?"

So, I'm being asked to pick up a 16 year old girl who I've never met before from her friends house, she will be dolled up to the nines and has quite possibly had half a bottle of vodka and is going to get into my 2 seater car with me and be driven several miles to her destination with no independent corroboration of anything that is said or done on that journey?

What goes through peoples minds? I wouldn't do it in a million years.
I declined.

This is just something that happened to me and not a comment on the original post.

I agree br d
Whilst i am extremely grateful for the replies received, the intention was to try and get some ideas of where such things can be hired. In your shoes i certainly would have declined as well, but would have more than happy if it was a friend, relative etc. Moreover from the other side of the fence, the is NO WAY my expensive offspring would be jumping into a strangers car.... however nice a car it was!
Anyway, the good news is that we're all sorted now and something suitably different has been booked - thanks to all for the help and offers.

Unsual transport for a 16 year old's prom, must seat at least 3? scratchchin

You want a flame-spitting, make your ears bleed Evo. yes

It will also keep the 16 year old boys' eyes off your daughter.

You won't be able to hire one, but get over to the Lancerregister.com, there will be quite a few in Essex that might do you a favour. wink

My car "should" be finished by then. If so and the dates tie up we could sort something I'm sure. You're probably looking for something a bit firmer than that but the offer's there. Kandy red '68 mustang convertible by the way.

PS. In the States it's the boy that's ment to sort the car by the way. The date used to do the rest, all I did was sort the car, the suit, the corsage and the hotel room. tongue out
