hi all...

again here to tap your brains!

Am currently a member oof Virgin Active in Strood, and go 5 days a week and pay £45 a month. Was wondering if any of you go to the gym and would like to know how much you pay; how busy it is; attitude; facilities; etc etc...

Am looking at joining another gym as the free weights area is too small and busy most of the time...

cheers
jimbob

Both me and my wife are members there, the OH goes 4-5 days a week (I now tend to use a virgin near to work in London).

We pay £61 a month each, but we can cancell with one months notice. How much notice do you have to give?

I'd say that for facilities its quite good, but the showers / toilets could be better for the money.

i believe it is only one month's notice... im on a rolling contract which is nice...

actually don't mind the showers but i think a hell of a lot of space is wasted, like i said, free weights area is far too small and crowded...

Keep an eye out for an S60T5 with smileys in the back and front :-)

I've used Fitness First for the last 10years, but only because I work in town and its always easy to find one close by in the city at lunchtime.

I used to go to a place called Gordon's gym when I was younger - a real mans gym with proper battled-scarred benches.

The owner called Terry Moore, (another Petrol head with a Karting background) moved to bigger premises up near Comet.

It got renamed a few years back and is now called Rochester Health Club (I think)?? - Anyway, when we all moved with him back in the 90's, the free weights were pretty good.

Yeah, I used to go when it was moore's gym but has long since changed name. He used to boast of more machines than any other gym. There was a large free weights area and he had a pool/spa/saunas put in as well which was nice. I stopped going when I changed job so, hmmm must be talking about 6 years ago. Think it was £30 something a month. Couldn't fault the place tbh. Would still go if if it wasnt for work.

that is literally round the back of work (BAE) so would probably be pretty useful...

i used to be a member at Echoes which allowed me to use the small gyms at Strood Sports Centre and Stirling Centre. Cheap but limited...

Beef's. Loads of free weights and quite a serious gym. However the one rule is you r not allowed to take the p1ss out of anyone (good for non roiders smile)

no idea of price though...

As said, what was 'Moores' up near the Airport is more focused on free weights. Roko on the Gillingham business park is good, not too busy 50% Cardio 50% combo of free weights (2 areas) and machines.

Shhhhh! You'll get me expelled! That is one benefit of not going to a weights only gym.
