Hi All,

Not had much joy in the food & drink forum, so I thought I'd try in here.

We've got an early morning ferry from Dover on Wednesday, so we're booked into a hotel on Tuesday night. The hotel restaurant doesn't look up to much, so I'd like to find somewhere else to go. Any suggestions? Fish or seafood would be nice but not essential, and preference would be given to something reasonably inexpensive.

My ideal choice would probably be a decent village pub somewhere in the nearby countryside, if such a place exists??

The Marquis does look nice, but not cheap!

The Tiger, sadly, is closed on Tuesdays. frown

Anyone ever been to the Kings Head in Kingsdown? Seems to get decent ratings on beerintheevening and the like.

Try the restaurant at Wallets Court Hotel, just 5 mins off the main road up by Dover Castle

Not necessarily Haute Cuisine but they are right when they say 2 seconds from the sea smile
Note if you are an Orange mobile user, it will think you are in France wink

I think you mean Cullins Yard. I think it's a bit expensive for the area.

The Griffin, at Chillenden is a bit too far. If I was going to be that sort of distance from Dover, then Abbots Fireside in Elham would be my choice.

La Scala would get my vote - I'm in the area, and we'll eat there every couple of months. Good Italian food at sensible prices, and you never get hurried. The chef is the owner.

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone!

In the end, we went with La Scala, and very good it was too. smile

We got there just after 7, and got the last table. Not bad for a Tuesday night!

1. Cullens Yard.
It's in the street behind the seafront, adjacent to a shopping outlet called De Bradelei Wharf.

2. The Coastguard at St Margaret's Bay.

3. La Scala. It's on the London Road, on the junction with Priory Road and Ladywell where the fire station is. Parking is in a public car park a little further down Ladywell.
