The rare occasion when one has passed overheard I consider any moment not staring at it, open mouthed with dribble running down my chin as a criminal waste.
Many years ago there was a flypast over Buckingham Palace (it was for something huge - I can't remember what), I was fishing at Walthamstow Reservoirs and saw the Lancaster and Hurricane of the Historic Flight circling overhead, awaiting to join the procession of aircraft. Just as I started peering around to spot the Spitfire, it came right over the top of my head at low level - absolutely glorious.

Saw a two seater Spitfire landed at Lydd a few weeks ago, believe it was being filmed. Had to give way to it when it took off but gave us a good look.

May have been going or coming back from the Duxford airshow?

Yes, I think that was said at the time. Followed by a twin filming it, not sure what.

I believe this is one of the rare occasions the term "respect" is appropriate.

I was lining myself up for a flight in a 2 seater (the Grace Spitfire) a few years back. It wasn't cheap... which was probably why I didn't do it.
I found this link which has a super sharp photo of the aircraft, even the narrative says it ain't cheap!

Edited to add - that link has some fantastic photos on it, well worth a poke around if you like that sort of stuff. If you prefer the usual sort of internet fodder I could probably provide some links to that too laugh

You know you're always going to wonder...... It's not expensive, it just makes other things look cheap. smile

Very true.
It did occur to me that I would probably get as much pleasure from listening to the aircraft flying as from being flown in it...

Keep your eyes peeled in the next few weeks as they are usually over Essex in some place or other on their way to, or back from, another display. I see them 4 or 5 times each summer flying not far from my house and make sure I pay the proper attention every time biggrin

Our house is below the main flight path to Biggin Hill just over a mile from the site of the crash in which David Leslie was killed.

I saw many of the aircraft flying to/from the June Air Fair including most of the the Spitfires and Hurricanes plus the Lancaster of the BoB Memorial Flight. The Red Arrows came over twice during their display. Once with four Hawks and the other with the whole team.
