A25 Borough Green - Kent

BiB (4 of them) sitting taking in the rays. One with hair dryer in centre of Borough Green late afternoon yesterday. Time to boost the bonus pot as holiday time approaches. Happily a decent guy in a car coming the opposite direction flashed his headlights as a warning. Notice this is something the French do a lot when we've driven through France. Helps even up the odds.

It's even better in Holland, they have so many Gatso's of all varieties its unreal.. read in a car mag ages back of this guy (Dutch, obviously) who made it his mission against these.. Where there was a mobile unit, he would park up say 1/2 mile away, sit there in his deck chair holding a big F-OFF sign saying "RADAR" Ahead.

Plod out there even hid speed camera's in a Wheelie Bin FFS!!

Which is amazing with all the camera's they have there, yet you can goto Amsterdam or such like, smoke weed in the coffee houses and screw wes with no worries - "scratch head"

Maybe violent crime in Holland is lower than the UK and the police there genuinely have nothing else to do.

What the police often fail so miserably on here in the UK is the most serious crime, that against the person.

Isn't it heartening to see that Kent police have their priorities well and truly skewed?

Kent Police have no money (I know because they have cancelled lots of projects and lost a load of cash in Iceland.)
They have increased speed patrols to get some extra cash in the coffers. Get used to it frown

Yep. I gave them £60 last week, and in return they are adding some points to my licence.
Money printing machines.

What were you doing to get this ticket and fine?

Sod all about revenue, hardly any money from fines goes to the police.

Kent police reduced all crime by 30% over the last 3 years and has one of the highest detection rates in the country ( on average detects 1 in 3 crimes), it also has one of the highest victim satisfaction levels ( 80+ %).

Strangely enough one of the jobs of the police is to police the speed limit, since the majority of the public believe in the need for them.

I'm presuming the area in question was a 30 or 40 and a built up area? If it is a 30 then no-one doing less than 40 will be getting a ticket.

There also is no bonus in catching speeders at 10 mph over a posted limit its just one of the things that has to be done to enforce a limit. If you have a limit it is pointless without enforcement.

1 in 5 stopped for excess speed tends to have no insurance or licence.

What the public fail to understand is the person most likely to assault them or hurt them is a friend or family member.

4 officers for an hour or less doing some speed enforcement, detecting over offences on the vehicles they find including no insurance, defects etc. Whilst the other 3500+ are doing other things. Yep they really are focussing on speed enforcement.

You are far more likely to have your car damaged, you hurt or killed by a random stranger in a crash than to have a random stranger assault you, damage your car or murder you. 3000 odd people a year get killed by random strangers in vehicles. In mostly preventable incidents.

Should've bought their doughnuts from KrispyKreme rather than Iceland.

My personal opinion is that if you are caught a fair way over a limit then fair enough, you have to take it on the chin as it were. It's getting the points, then up goes the insurance which is far worse than the nominal £60 fine, as you have to declare your points for 5 years on your insurance... Bu88eration!

The system of just on spot fines in europe is better... went to Germany for the Nurburg a couple of years back and one of our mates in the group is a BIB and forgot its KPH there and his mind was still on MPH, lol... so when we got pulled, the German police were most amused to nick an English copper! But after a quick whip round, it was done and forgotten, just provided a great P155 take out of our mate for the weekend.
