Hi Everyone
I'm currently living in Surrey but myself and the family (wife kids 6 and 3 with one on the way) are looking to move next year. I'd quite like to move further out and have seen Faversham on some website searches. I've never been there but was wondering if anyone could advise on what it would be like to bring up 3 kids and travel into london everyday.

thanks a lot
Gareth

I`ve lived here all my life, and would never move. Very quaint town, lots of history, main line to Victoria, Charing Cross and Cannon St. No problems with chavs / yobs either.

If you want anything checked out, please email me.

Lived in Sittingbourne a long, long time. Most of us will say Faversham has more chavs, but most in Faversham will say the same of Sittingbourne. In reality neither town has it that bad, actually to concede, Sittingbourne is probably that little bit that worse, what with Isle of Sheppey and nearer the Medway towns. Faversham town is actually really nice. A few high street stores, but still enough traditional shops to make it quaint, nice medium sized Tesco just off the high street too. There are some quite horrid areas towards Oare and the north west, but there are some really nice hamlets to the south.

London city is about an hour and a quarter by train, Bluewater is about 45 minutes. Canterbury is really nice too, and only about 20 minutes by car.

Ashford and Maidstone aren't too far away either, though of the nearest big towns, I prefer Canterbury. And of course, if you fancy a trip to the continent, Dover is only 30 minutes away.

I've been passing it for ten years and I find the
local standard of driving to be much below average.

It appears to be populated by lane hogging hat-wearers
who think that 50 mph is more than fast enough for everyone.

There is a big brewery in the town. I don't know
if this is a related fact.

I've checked the usual websites and house prices seem
to be a little bit below average for Kent (211K versus 232K).

I assume you mean on the M2, since it's not really possible to travel faster than 30mph on the A2 through Faversham because of the two speed cameras. Not sure if I'd like to judge a town based on going passed it on a motorway for 10 years...

As for schooling, I think the secondary schools in Faversham are average. Borden Grammar school in Sittingbourne is a decent enough school. Nice enough grammar and private schools in Canterbury too!

I think that`s the old Grammar school site, they demolished it some years back, nice area, downside, it`s close to the railway lines.

It's a sthole.

Lived there for an unbearable 6 months. It's like living amongst genetic throwbacks. I didn't see a SINGLE attractive human being in the whole time I was there.

Canterbury is much nicer.

That`s a very shallow comment, seeing as you only spent 6 months in Faversham. You must walk around with your eyes closed ?

As much as possible hehe

I don't understand why people defend stty towns so much... I lived in both Sittingbourne and Faversham, and never made out either were better than they are.

Yes but from quite some years ago. Unfortunately no free beer though. frown I must admit I've not really tried to get any.

I don't know Faversham, but be aware that Sittingbourne and the Medway towns are considered by some to be chav-tastic places to live. Avoid the Isle of Shi**y at all costs, although I am told that the prison is quite good.
