Restaurant recommendation - Medway or Maidstone?
Discussion
My parents are after a restaurant recommendation for their ruby anniversary for ~ a dozen people. Somewhere nice, but not Michelin-star nice.
Trouble is, the group is a mix of foodies and definitely-non-foodies (i.e. meat & 2 veg or similar 'ordinary' stuff, but my folks would like somewhere which does that AND some more interesting stuff, as it's their anniversary and they do eat more adventurously). So they're struggling. Oh, and the restaurant should be able to offer gluten-free stuff too...
Anyone got any ideas? Need suggestions before they go on hols on Saturday, please.
Thanks very much,

You could try The Hengis in Aylesford, or Kits Koty half way up Blue Bell hill but on the old road. Or try the Bridge Wood Manor Hotel, it has a very nice restaurant. All of these will do a meat and 2 veg but also something a bit special.
HTH
Kits Coty is fairly pretentious & bl00dy expensive. Never been to the Hengist but looks OK.HTH
Bridgewood Manor would be a good choice, a bit further out is the Bull at Wrotham village & The Crownpoint at Seal.
Flaming Henrys in Maidstone have a room I think, one of the chain hotels would be OK.
i thought of the Hengist - til i read the meat + 2 veg bit - only been there once, was very good, but their idea of 2 veg was just that, 2 potatoes, 2 beans.....quality excellent, but lets just say, lost of white space on the plates. if it isnt too far away, Vineyard at Wrotham Heath: generqally you can have banter with the waiters, especially if they know its a special evening, have decent specials in addition to main menu and are happy to rustle up something else if they can.

Its mainly a steak house but the food is fantastic

Except my sirloin was very badly cooked - medium+ at one end, rare at the other! Also didn't taste as good as I'd expect proper steak from a steakhouse to taste. I can (and regularly do) do better myself.

Lots of good pubs around that now do good food. We eat out most Wednesday lunchtimes and tend to google.Trouble is, the group is a mix of foodies and definitely-non-foodies (i.e. meat & 2 veg or similar 'ordinary' stuff, but my folks would like somewhere which does that AND some more interesting stuff, as it's their anniversary and they do eat more adventurously). GOOGLE - Good pubs around...... Maidstone, Rochester, West Malling etc
Many of them have list of reviews and we tend to read the ones that have lots of reviews. It seems that people only write reviews when they are either very happy or very unhappy. Found some real gems using this method. Starting to travel further afield now recently went to Stalisfield Green (between Charing and Faversham. Also the Griffin at Fletching. Leave you to GOOGLE.
