Fancy getting my wheels re-furbed and possibly re-coloured in anthracite. Anyone recommend any companies near Chelmsford?

Hi Alex

Hope the knee is a little better.
I'm looking at having mine done too. I've been down to see John at http://www.jppolishing.co.uk/index.html
He's based in Canvey Island.
He is on holiday from Friday, returns Monday 27th July.
£50 per wheel, remove tyre, dipped in strip fluid for 1 - 2 days, painted, lacquer, re-fit tyres, values, balance and all! Should take a week for all four.

Not seen how long his work lasts for. I have no doubts though.

I've used JP Polishing before and despite the rather ramshackle appearance of his workshop, he did a fine job.

There is also a valeting company in Chelmsford that do refurbs as well - the name escapes me at the moment but I'll have a hunt and post a link.

ETA - It's Clean-Image - although it looks like they have changed their name to 'New Again'.

May be worth popping by to have a look at their work if it's local to you?

I just tried Clean Image, they want £321 inc VAT.

Tried to find these guys http://www.paintituk.com/ who are only about 10 mins as the crow flies from my parents, drove around the very uninviting industrial park, couldn't see them so gave up, price looks attractive though.

any one tried these guys?

www.alloyart.co.uk

got a quote to fix pot hole damage on 1 wheel, and then refurb all 4 wheels including painting them white for £312.55 all in - quite a good price. Basically works out at £63.45 to refurb+paint each wheel and £58.75 to fix the pot hole damage.

just wandering if anyone has used them and can recommend their services?

if not i might have to try this Lepson place everyone raves about.
cheers.

I'm going to give JP a call, had 3 recommendations yesterday so sound worth a go. I seem to recall someone told me they had theirs done by JP and the price for 4 was around £175

This thread here near the end shows what the finish is like from lepsons .

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

If you read through the thread its about the wet flat finish that lepsons can achieve straight from the gun . thumbup

Thanks for the pm. Lepsons do look very good. My main problems are a) I don't have any spare wheels (so would have to take the whole car down and leave it for 3 days) price for this is £73+VAT per wheel as opposed to £53+VAT if the wheels are taken alone b) can't get the wheels off anyhow as my trolley jack won't go under the car.

I need a local solution so I can get back home, who ideally can do the refurb within a day.

I've used JP in Canvey too. Not the best finish I've ever seen on refurbed alloys but very reasonably priced. Depends what you are looking for I guess. Tidy enough work and rock bottom bargain prices? - he's certainly your man - want absolute perfection?, then get your wallet out and go somewhere else.

4x16" alloys £175. He usually runs a Christmas offer in December that works out even cheaper.

If anyone's got a spare set of TVR wheels I can borrow, I'll take mine to Lepsons to be refurbed.

Not fussed about cost, more interested in convenience

Re JP POLISHING - I had all my motorbike stuff done there.... and 3 years ago I had my Countach wheels powder coated in silver there.
All "bits" still look perfect!!
Don't be put off by his yard (slightly untidy)!! but his work is first class!!

There is a place in Rochford that can do it... www.alloywheels.com

I did mine myself, really easy to do with a bit of time on your hands, I have a guide that I used if you want me to post it up.

My dad used these guys for the wheels on his '89 XJ-S - came up very well & they were in poor condition. Whilst we were pleased with the results I've heard some mixed results.

Their located right round the back of the estate - follow the service road round, there's usually some interesting stuff parked up round there as there's a workshop next door. When I was last there saw a S3 E-Type Roadster, 1930's Dodge & a monster De Tomaso Pantera being race prepped.

Didn't like the look of Paintituk and the time I visited the most exotic car outside was a Mondeo.

Thanks for the headsup on JD Classics, I was meant to go there last Sunday as they had an open day breakfast, I'll check them out.

Thanks for everyone's advice
