I'm wondering if anyone who knows the area might be able to help.
I'm relocating to Colchester due to work and are in the process of selling our house and trying to find somewhere in commuting distance to Colchester.

Can anyone recomend any areas or places to avoid, the wife quite fancies moving to one of the villages outside of Colchester so we've been looking round Gt Horkesley, Boxted, Little Bentley, Tendring, Frating and various others.

Thanks in advance

I live in a village about 8 miles from the centre of Colchester - commute takes around 15-20 mins. Moved to the area 8 years ago from Hertfordshire. Drop me a line also if you like, happy to help.

What part of Colchester will you be working in?. As it would be a big factor in where to look to live.
I live in a small village about 3-4 miles on the southside of the town centre which is about a 15 min drive.

Depends on your rough budget, some lovely villages north of Colchester in and around the Suffolk border.

I used to spend a lot of time in Langham, nice place I thought - and used to Scuba dive with the club in Boxsted (IIRC).

Spent a fair bit of time exploring the villages a few years back when I had a project in Martlesham, tried all the various routes to avoid the hell that was the A12/Copdock.

Ipswich is pretty cheap from what I recall, and the train commute isn't bad.

It's realy important to let us know where in Colly you'll be working. Great town but worst road system in any small town ever! We live 10 miles North East and love it smile

As far away from the place as you can get that's still reasonable commutable distance....
