When you don't pay what?
A fee?
A bribe?
Your debts?

Pay your debts, and the man won't call on you.

On a more relevant point is the OP stating that the Police/DVLA are sharing their ANPR database with one or more Bailiff firms so that they can patrol the streets and clamp cars failing to have tax, insurance, MOT etc eek

Whilst I agree that failure to comply with motoring regulations need policing it does smack of revenue generation and could be seen as the start of privatisation of the Police for none criminal offence detection which is not going to be a good thing, especially if Bailiff's can charge what they like to release any clamped vehicles even after the fine/payment etc is made.

I assumed (though you know what they say about that), that the bailiffs have a list of cars they are interested in and therefore that's the database they are using.

I.e. they know car XYZ 123 owes them money, so it flashes up when it drives past.

I don't understand the point of this post though - it seems that the original poster is here for one reason, which here on PH we don't really like.

This is a bailiff anpr van. You will be surprised at the amount of correspondance that goes missing in the post and gets sent to the wrong address. Example one person i helped lived at 71A any road but the post was being delivered to 71 any road. It is only when they were clamped did they find out what was going on. For those who do not know what anpr stands for :

I think we all know what anpr stands for - this is a petrol head forum afterall. I still don't get your point. It's an anpr van - so what?

I would have thought Baliff activity was a good thing - surely all you're achieving by publicly identifying that particular vehicle and the purpose it's used for is making life easier for those who choose to avoid their debts and obligations to the rest of us.

I can't see the point in your post - unless of course you're one of them yourself?

I assume you're talking about the point of this thread. I can't see it either. It's something about a van with a pair of cameras on it. Why any of us should care in the least escapes me though.

I dont really have any problem with ANPR vans no matter who is driving them for 2 reasons -

1. My cars are fully road legal - all the time.
2. If one gets nicked and it drives past a ANPR van, it may help the police recover it.

Sorry but I just dont get the point of the thread - you pay your bills and you never see a bailiff.
If I was owed money by someone and they decided not to pay me I would use whatever means I could to recover the money.

Not technically true. wink I paid all my bills, yet my mum didnt. furious while away for a weekend my car got taken... then had to take another day off work to go get the thing back, which was taken 20 miles away.

Thats theft plain and simple.
They have the means to do a vehicle id check which obviously would show that you are the registered owner so they moved it without your permission hense theft. You are not legally responisble for your mums debts and they know this.
You should have told them to redeliver it to your house with 2 hours otherwise you will proceed with a theft claim.
I would also have advised them that you will be presenting them with an invoice for your time and trouble, lost work etc etc unless the 2 hour deadline is met.
Any st from them then get down the small claims court - trust me they would not have had a leg to stand on and they would have sorted it out asap.
You just have to let them know that you aint gonna be bullied when you have done nothing wrong.

I do some work for the bailiffs and this does not happed, was your car in your mothers name? There are rules which must be followed, most people will never meet a bailiff because they pay their bills the ones that do not are allso protected by laws. The firm of bailiffs that I work for are very professional and check out all details before calling me in,I have never given back a car yet without payment being made first.
