The road between Gt Chrishall and Royston (B1039) has got to be one of the best!

Any other ones you know of?

The road linking South Woodham Ferrers to Burnham can be quite fun - although a popular bike run.

There's also a road that runs between Danbury and Maldon through the country (past the Anchor Pub and Gold Course).

cool

Certainly agree with you there. I used to drive to Tillingham all the time, there are some great roads out that way.

One of my favourites is the one that runs around the back of the Lodge at Rettnedon, coming out on the roundabout at South Woodham Ferrers - lots of swooping bends with good visibility.

The B1032 from Holland on Sea to Great Holland is a good 'un.

You can still see the hole in the hedge which I made in my Mk 1 Escort 25 years ago when I lost it in a very big way indeed weeping trying to beat my time between the start and finish of the NSL section...

The M25, 'cos whichever way you head on it, it eventually takes you out of and away from Essex. Just don't too far on said road, mind: you could well be disappointed.

Oh yes indeedy.. Hanningfield resevior straight has my V max record on the public highway. 1.35 leptons in a customers car... Best done from north to south as the incline at the end is steeper at the southern end which helps loose some speed at the end of the straight.

Another good one is the round trip from Thorpe le Soken to Little Oakley on the B1414 and then Ramsey to Manningtree on the B2352, then back to Thorpe on the B1035.

Who...Me Officer? hehe

That Burnham road is called "The Burnham Esses" by the local bikers, great drive out there on a Sunday and you can stop in the riverside pubs in Burnham. Doesn't matter what you're driving you aren't going to beat the bikes!

The rezzie straight is very well known, passes the local water board. (Got nicked there as a ten year old for trespassing!)
The local boys used to mark out a quarter mile and scream down it at 2 on a Saturday morning, never done it myself but you can turn left at the end and there is a very nice pub (The Compasses) for a Sunday lunch, I live very near by. The road from Wickford up Brock Hill past the front of the rezzie and down toward Galleywood is also a great road at 6am on a Sunday morning.

Most of the roads in the Dengie peninsula are good for drivers. One not mentioned is from Latchington up to Bradwell. A couple of words of caution - the surfaces are not smooth to say the least and you need a good handling car - driving them in a Ferrari 360 gave no steering feed back at speeds up to the legal limit.

Hanningfield Reservoir in Billericay.
If you have been there before you'll know what I'm on about....

To get to it, go down Stock Road from Billericay to Stock, just before the Motorcycle learning place and opposite the pub that has shut down (before you reach Stock), there's a right turn - Downham Road. Go down there and enjoy.

My god what a road. I went down there the other day for a change of route not really knowing where i was going and was well impressed with the series of corners and the nice little resevoir straight.

Some awesome roads between woodham and burnham.
Creephedge lane (between woodham and hanningfield),especially the downhill section over the humps before the nice left.

Theres some awesome roads round here.

Glad you enjoyed it M3jappa. Told you it was good! Nice sweeping corners before you get to the main straight where you can reach speeds of up to.....60mph (obviously).

Another road to try is a route from Billericay to the A128. Basically go to Tye Common Road from the Essex Ford Garage in Billericay (or Burstead Golf Course), head down Hatches Farm Road, take a right onto Botney Hill Road and follow it down! Nice corners, height/camber change! Slow down for the Town, but then you reach the A128 by the pub (the boars head). Take a left and it opens up a bit.

Not quite as isolated as Hanningfield but still good fun. We should organise a Hoon if anyone is interested? I know a lot more roads too, like Dry Street in Basildon which heads up to Corringham on the old A13.
