Just been into Maidstone to get a few bits and spotted a newly installed (wife says it wasn't there yesterday) speed camera as you head North bound on the Loose road just before you go round the corner onto Sheals Crescent.

I'd heard they were going to put one here to slow the traffic down before it gets to the corner, but thought it was only a rumour.

There's no lines on the road yet but it probably won't be long.

Oh, and it's grey and partially hidden by the road sign so very difficult to spot.

I was not aware of this camera either but a cursory search pulled up a report by the Director of Kent Highway Services to the Highways Advisory Board on 10th July 2007 outlining the proposal for this new camera at the location first described above.

Also states cost of £33,000 and that all other options were assessed but subsequently dismissed.

Didn't look like it when I drove past it this morning. I would imagine they'd have to remove the road sign first as it must block the cameras view.

Passed the camera again yesterday and as Roo pointed out the road sign will need to be moved and at present the camera lense has been blocked.

It's been like that for a couple of days. Hopefully it hasn't gone away to have the camera unit installed.

There was a Truvelo on it this afternoon facing northbound traffic, didn't notice it yesterday so presume it went up today. No lines on the road yet, but not sure if truvelos need them.

Yeah the truvelo needs the lines as well as the sensors in the road - same as up by Willington Street / Shepway area.

Sigh. Well done Maidstone frown

Quick update.

This section of road is due to be closed for two nights this week to allow the installation of the sensors.

Thanks for the heads up, I was wondering what was going on. Just round the corner from me.

The only good news is that they are on the Maidstone-bound side of the road only.
