Moving a non runner in North Kent...help / pointers please?
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm trying to help a friend out who needs to move a non running Ford Classic from a garage near Gillingham to location in Whitstable.
I've got a towbar on my Impreza, but doubt my GVW would permit me to rent a trailer and pull both the Ford and the trailer legally.
Can anyone please help / recommend anyone / give any pointers...?
We're trying to do this cheaply, as the car is not an expensive concours Ford, just a persons pride and joy.
Anything you can add would be brilliant.
Cheers,
Nige.

A friend and myself towed a Marea Weekend with dead engine from Heathrow to the Isle of Sheppey on a fixed tow bar one evening with a 1.6 bravo...
granted, we did stick a big on tow sign in the rear window and over the rear No plate (no tax or ticket) and have to run a power supplu from my mates car to the battery as it was goosed and needed running lights. all we did was buy a couple of sets of cheap jump leads and ran them from the amp supply in his boot and taped it to the bar so it didnt drag.
just keep of the motorways and you should be ok, passed a couple of police cars and no problems

Cheers for the idea Andy, but the ol' Classic has no brakes as the master cylinder has been taken out for replacement too.granted, we did stick a big on tow sign in the rear window and over the rear No plate (no tax or ticket) and have to run a power supplu from my mates car to the battery as it was goosed and needed running lights. all we did was buy a couple of sets of cheap jump leads and ran them from the amp supply in his boot and taped it to the bar so it didnt drag.

I will need to dig out my manual to check my towing weight, but I doubt the Impreza could do it legally.
Seems it's going to have to be a recovery firm of some sort. Anyone know a decent firm in that area that don't charge £££...?
Cheers,
Nige.

I have used a guy local to me in Maidstone who has a flat bed truck.
I needed to pick up a Rover Vitesse from Hatfield near Watford and go back to Maidstone and the cost was around 80 quid but with fuel costs higher etc I would expect the cost to be around 120 quid for you ?

Will have a look as I have not needed him for a couple of years but him name is Roger and he runs Silverback Recovery. Should be in the Yellow Pages.
I have used him on several occasions and he is a great guy (and a car nut like me).
Tell him Russ with the Rover sd1 Vitesse from Maidstone recommended him.
