Anyone local to Yalding?
Discussion
I used to go to Yalding in the summer months when i was in my early school days and living in Paddock Wood (30 years ago )
We (mother and brothers) used to swim in the shallow area by the lock (along with hundreds of others) and fish/picnic/walk along the river and there used to be a little cafe there aswell.
Well my question is............has it changed much in this time, is it worth doing as a day out ..........picnic etc.

Hi
As with all of Kent it has got alot busier over the last 10years or so...
I personaly love Yalding and the surrounding area it is a relativly untouched area.
It still gets very busy in the summer, and yes people still go swimming in the water...
I would say it would be a nice day out into the Kent countryside as long as you get the weather right..

As long as it hasn't rained heavily! The village has a serious flood issue! The Blue Anchor pub (the one near the weir / lock) attracts some un-savoury characters during peak periods!
The Village and surroundings are still unchanged.

They also have a severe lack of barstaff.
We popped in there to get a drink before we left and the queue to get to the bar was nearly out the door as there was only 1 girl serving on a scorching day like today.
Great day out and had a lovely picnic and walk along the river.

P.S it hasn't changed much.

The only other thing is the parking, seem to remember the parking was roadside? (no carparks) on narrow road.
Didn't know about the big grass area used as a carpark/picnic site (£2.50 for the day) but then again i used to cycle there as a youngster from Paddock Wood so wouldn't need to know.

I used to do that about 15 years ago. I lived in Allington so would ride up on bikes and then muck about in the lock. Great fun. But as previously posted, very busy now. The carpark in the field would have been packed this weekend with the weather as it was. Not been over there for a while but drive past every now and again.

Surprisingly the car park was NOT very busy, we got there at about 12.30 - 1.00pm and left there at about 4.00 pm and there was alot of room for people playing football etc in the middle as the cars, vans, campervans were all parked around the outside.
