The Restaurant of Patrick Devos, " De Zilveren Pauw", is a gastronomic restaurant in a suberb historical building in the centre of the town of Bruges.

I assume you have a helicopter.

Alternatively try 'Room 24' in southend.....

What sort of food are you after ?

French - Stefan's Brasserie (a favourite of mine and Rich's)
French - Fleur De Provence
Thai - Thai Nava

If you have a quick car and can do the trip on 15 mins I recommended Masons 2 (formally James) in Heybridge Maldon. Next to the Benbridge Hotel

The Glasshouse in Alexandra Street is very nice for a candlelit evening meal (they also have private dinig rooms downstairs I believe).

The Boatyard in Old Leigh is also pretty good, although it can get pretty noisy.

Have heard great things about Stefans (if that's the one in Milton Street/Road/Avenue in Westcliff?)

Renouf's hotel near Rochford station also used to be pretty good, although that was a good few years ago - no idea if Derek Renouf is still running it though - he may have retired)

I'm conscious that I'm a touch late to this but...The Bear Inn in Stock is fantastic - 20 miles away though, but if you want a good restaurant look no further.

www.thebearinn.biz/

From a decent Sunday lunch, to a stunning a la carte menu and also the best tasting burgers in the world I cannot recommend it highly enough. Only downside? A tad expensive, so I only go for a special treat!

I wasn't very impressed with Masons Dion, they messed up my main course order, then deleted our desserts off of the system so that we were left waiting for ages before someone realised.

Only popped in for a quick 2 course meal, and it took just over 2 hours.

Forgot to add a suggestion!

Theres a good chinese next to the Halfway house on the Eastern esplanade (turn left at the cursal and keep driving till you pass the 2nd Gatso).
Also a friend runs the Pipe of Port in Southend, good food and good wine.
