Kent breakfast run Sunday 8th of April
Discussion
Going to have to bin this folks, work beckons, sorry!
Now Spring is almost upon us, here's the first run I proposed a while back.
Rough guide to the route-
Meet point.
Rye Harbour.
Headcorn aerodrome. (Breakfast)
Head off after breakfast or convoy back to the meet point.
IF I can get us a little peek around my friends race team, I will, but I'm not holding much hope as we're now into race season. The peek around would be after breakfast. Fingers crossed.
Meet Point 6:30am- depart at 6:50am
Cineworld Rochester car park (Under the bridge)
Medway Valley leisure park
Chariot way
Rochester
ME2 2SS
Then head to Rye harbour along some of Kents great driving roads. Stretch our legs there for a bit, grab some photos of the cars then head to Headcorn Aerodrome for breakfast. We should arrive there around 9am.
After breakfast, either head our seperate ways of, if lucks on our side, pop to the race team.
I will plan in a fuel stop for the run, I'm happy to lead although my car isn't the fastest. Will be obeying village speed limits strictly.
Precise copies of the route will be handed out at the meet point. Old school!
Hopefully I've not missed anything.
Please add your names to the list if you're coming.

Count me in (E46 M3 track car) if we can get a decent group together and the weather is OK (not raining / snowing!!)
Do we need 2-way radios, or just follow a pre-provided route map? Ideally I'd like to put it into Google maps so as to not get lost and not have to worry if we lose visual contact. Much less risk that way.
Thank you for organising.

That's a shame. If anyone is still interested in this please e-mail me.*Meet at 06:30 - depart at 06:45 sharp. Finish around 09.00 for breakfast.
I can say that the start definitely won't be as far north as Rochester though.
Let me know where you're coming from so that I can pick a suitably central location.
* Because I won't be putting any further details in the public domain.
Will include a stop, but for a photo op not fuel.
If everyone leaves home with a full tank the latter won't be necessary during the run.

No need for radios. Any run I put together has a Google Maps link because that's what I use for route planning.Ideally I'd like to put it into Google maps so as to not get lost and not have to worry if we lose visual contact.

I don't have anything distracting like a sat nav in my weekend toy as I already know where I'm going.
There is a simple way to avoid loss of contact. Use the WW2 fighter pilot's rule: you're responsible for your wing man!
In 10 years I've only had a group get split up twice and one of those was due to force majeure.
A dozy woman decided that doing a random 3 point turn on a main road was a great idea.
Compounded by the guy in our group who was in front of her at the time failing to adhere to the pilot's rule above.

If it’s dry I’m in! I’ve taken my weekend car out once this year, the weather has to change at some point
Good. I shall be most disapppointed if you don't. Room for more. Miss it, miss out...

But the upside was a complete absence of traffic.
The conditions were nowhere near as bad as all the doom merchants were predicting.
Not a problem provided one adjusts to them. A fun drive doesn't depend on V-Max everywhere.
No new messages in my Inbox atm. Where is everyone?
Sorry Tony this is a bit to far afield for me, unless you fancy bringing it more newbury way The conditions were nowhere near as bad as all the doom merchants were predicting.

If you organise a run a bit closer to home I will be all over it.

Sadly I think forums are becoming places for the few, Facebook seems to have taken over many peoples lives , I don't get it, but maybe that's because I refuse to join it.
Best of luck, Good roads in that neck of the woods.
I think a run out with fewer, shall we say a slightly more select group is more appealing to me. Best of luck, Good roads in that neck of the woods.
I’ve seen one of the Facebook groups and they have over 100 people joining a drive... which is a recipe for disaster.

I quite agree about group size. The bigger it is the more difficult it becomes to keep it together.
The most I have had on one of mine was 24. I simply divided it up into 3 squadrons of 8.
Red, Blue, and Green. Each with a flight leader who knew the route.
With a time gap of about 3 minutes between them. Worked a treat.
No pressure to 'keep up' and nobody got lost.
100 cars is just ridiculous. Such large gatherings nearly always lead to trouble and bring unwelcome atttention.
I long ago stopped going to London tunnel runs for that very reason. Too many jerks driving like ds.
I won't be attending this one, mostly due to weather. Will consider in summer.
Last "run" like this I did was probably 15 years ago, in the Elise. Presumably it's over narrow country roads?
Just asking because my current car is *extremely* wide, so not suited to the type of roads we used for the old Lotus runs.
