Restaraunt, Burnham too Basildon
Discussion
Bit late I know, but couldn't get on yesterday.
Taking the mrs out today for a long overdue day out, starting in Maldon for shopping and cream tea then heading to Burnham later. After a nice pub/restaurant for this evening, something different from Toby etc, any ideas?
Can be anywhere between Burnham and Basildon and surrounding areas.
TIA

Lion Inn in Boreham's usually good - convenient for you if your heading back to Bas as it's off the A12 at Boreham & has a large car park. Decent food, not especially expensive. Can't book though so just turn up.
Dog & Gun in Little Waltham's also good - easy to get too from A12 as well.

Was just about to post the same but a fellow hammer got there before me.Thanks very much!
Cream teas were nice but we've had to nip home for something.
Still off out tonight but have a broader spectrum really. The lion inn is looking fave at mo, possibly The Bell at Horndon but still open to others ...
Now sorted, we are going to try The Lion Inn tonight

As a footnote your mention of The Bell there used to be a bloke who parked an E30 M3 on the road that leads to the pub - I think he (or someone else) also had an NSX in Horndon.

That was a mate's E30 M3, been sold for a few years now. The chap that owns the NSX is a member on here and I a rather tidy pro photographer for quite a few car mags.As a footnote your mention of The Bell there used to be a bloke who parked an E30 M3 on the road that leads to the pub - I think he (or someone else) also had an NSX in Horndon.
A little late on the restaurant front but the Magic Mushroom over at Barleylands is quite good.

Anyone know of any good restaurants in Essex?
I have been going to The Bell Inn for 22 years, and more recently to the Lion Inn for the last 3-4 what seems like every fourtnight.
Everywhere else I have tried has had the following issues;
Great looking venue, Bentleys and Rangies in the car park, overpriced tastless food (plenty of these 'kings new cloths' restaurants in Essex);
Reasonably priced places, everyday food, car park full of Galaxies and kids running round like its Party man.
Higher end venues, high prices, tasty morsels, no atmosphere and end up at Mc Donolds on the way home for a Mc Flurry.
Got to be more than just the Bell and Lion inn out there?
Just remebered The Sun Inn at Dedham, used to be good, was crap when I went there last year :-(
