Hi folks,

Currently considering moving to Epping. Initial impressions are good, but wondered if there are any local who can give an honest view?

We'd be looking to live walking distance to train station, a street or two off the high street.

Thoughts and opinions please?

It's great - few good shops and restaurants.

George & Dragon is a nice pub. Fri and Sat nights attract some unwanted attention on the high street due to the 2 clubs but it's not too bad.

Where are you at the moment?

Thanks Veight. Currently live in Enfield. Looking to move just a little further out. Do you live in Epping?

Thanks fella. We're going to mooch up and down he high street on Sunday, and try a pub or two and get a feel for the area. I may have some more questions after that!

I live just outside Epping and have lived in and around the town for 13 years.

Its a great place to live, a thriving high street and some decent pubs (although the Forest Gate is the best one in the town, and not on the High st.)

There are some great roads to the east of town and for me the blend of easy access to London and being in the countryside offers a great blend.

Sadly (unless you already live here :-)) in the past few years other people seem to have cottoned onto this fact and house prices have got pretty high.

Thanks AllyBee. We're targetting places within walking distance of the High Street or just outside Epping. Our concern with the later is how quickly we'd tire of needing to drive everywhere, but we'll see.

We spent a very wet Sunday wandering up and down the High Street (and warming up in front of a roaring fire in the Black Lion) and despite the rain we still thought it felt like a great place to live.

Agree with you on prices, but then it's the same for the area we're currently in which have also exploded.

Surely that's Tottenham.

What's not to like? mate live in Hemnall St, just of the High St.
Central line Tube, M11, M25, countryside, decent High St.

Loughton is similar and closer to the smoke.

I think we're pretty set on Epping with a couple of possible houses on the shortlist. We'll be back there this weekend. We've enjoyed a drink in the Black Lion.

We were thinking of trying George and the Dragon next, or is there somewhere better?
