I've just been down to Gillingham and back dropping off a courtesy car and picking ours up. Saw the carnage from the A2 going round to the '25 northbound - traffic completely backed up!

What a total fking mess down there!

Why not just lower the speed limit to say 10mph over it? Or are they actually worried about vehicles blowing off of it?

Gusts ranging between 70 and 80 mph round here at the moment.

I wouldn't want to be driving over it in a car let alone anything high sided.

Oh joy.

I'm in Orpington at the moment and the winds seem very light so I would expect (hope!) that it opens soon. One good thing about working over Christmas/New Year is the lighter traffic but unless the bridge opens within the next hour or so it'll be like a normal day!!

The winds are the quietest they have been all day, its a very odd decision, rumour is that there was a lorry accident recently due to winds and now they are being extra cautious

My boss has just left to get home to Essex and is gonna update me so will let you know

I have to go across about 7pm tonight hope its all ok by then

HA are warning of 2 and a half hour delays to get from Essex into Kent and 1 and a half hour delays from Kent into Essex. And yet it's about as windy as a fly's fart out there.

Maybe someone from the HA got some new cones for Christmas!!

yes

I can see the bridge from here and I can assure you there is barely a breeze

The Met Office are still forecasting gusts of up to 35mph in that area so I suspect HA are being ultra, ultra cautious. Doesn't help the 1,000s of people who are stuck in 2 hour+ queues though.
