Hi All,

Does anyone know if the Essex roads have been gritted yet ? I want to take the car out at the weekend but don't fancy washing off a tonne of grit and salt afterwards.

Cheers

Andy

They've been gritting the roads in Chelmsford for about 3 weeks now!yikes
God knows why - we've only had two frosts!ranting
Chelmsford City Council must think its residents (as the ones that ultimately pay for it by way of council tax) have money than sense! rage
Not only are they wasting the grit but the drivers putting it down must also be on overtime furious

Yes unfortunately! Why I have no idea, it's been double figures and all the grit has been down! Damp roads for the next 4 months!

........and then God invented the jet wash wink

When I get 5 minutes I'm going to set up a thermostatic mixing valve to an outside tap so I can jet wash with warm water which will be even better at dissolving salt smile

Yep they have been gritting for ages... there are tons of salt out on the roads.

By the way it isn't Chelmsford City Council who do it, instead it is Essex County or aka Essex Highways. If you are really bored you can track the gritters online http://www.essexhighways.org/Transport-and-Roads/R...

The matrix signs on the A130 were advising of "Gritting in Progress" today.

The reason for early gritting is probably due to the council having bought too much grit. For the last few years they have been caught out by not having any when they really need it.They,re probably just shifting last years over order ready to get this years stock in ,then we will get bad weather and need the roads gritted ,and then they will run out of it .Happy days biggrin

That would be funny - except you're probably not far from the truth.
Councils can be very good at wasting budgets .... the thing is that the budgets are made from our council taxes rolleyes
