I’m looking at a possible relocation to Dollands Moor, Hythe or Folkestone (or surrounding areas) due to change of job.

I will be doing some research on rental prices, but does anyone have first hand knowledge on these three locations regarding:

- Crime (any ‘no-go area’?)
- Social life
- Attitude towards car owners (e.g. do it require on-road parking permit etc)
- Rental prices
etc

Many thanks in advance.

Folkestone town centre is a bit of a dump nowadays, the west end of the town is generally nicer than the east side and there are some quite nice flats in the roads off Sandgate Road. Tontine Street and Dover Road have the worst reputations for crime/antisocial behaviour. Cheriton has a large Gurkha population as the regiment is based at the barracks there.

Going along the coast Sandgate is a nice area with a few decent pubs and restaurants. Hythe is nicer than Folkestone but a lot of the population are retired so it isn't exactly full of exciting nightlife.

I have a friend who lives in Saltwood just outside Hythe. Its a very quiet little hamlet but not an old peoples area. On road parking has no issues and there are some nice old pubs in the area with no real late night drinkers causing problems etc. Plenty of life in Hythe town centre although not in a nightclub type of way.

I live in hythe, I'm 22 and feel like I'm in Gods waiting room! Ashford has a decent enough night life and Canterbury is very good!
Most of the local residents are deaf so won't hear you no matter how loud your car is. Folkestone has parking permits and can be a bit of a pain in the back side!

I'd recommend Hythe though! And if you ever need any work done on your car, my dad and I own a garage/ mot station/ tyre shop in Dymchurch!
