I have some mates who are all Petrol heads coming for the weekend on 17/18 August or the following weekend. They all live in the picturesque areas of Marlow and Newbury! We want to do a run out leaving Shoebury about 10.30am and stopping for lunch say 1.30 - 2.00pm and I cant think of a nice route avoiding as many trunk roads as possible. Have to do a bit of 127 and 130 to get anywhere.

Really appreciate some suggestions PLEASE

Favourite hooning road is from Manningtree to Harwich.

Otherwise:

Chelmsford - Dunmow - Bardfield - Finchingfield

Dunmow - Thaxtead - Saffron Walden

South Woodham Ferres - Burnham on Crouch - Bradwell - Maldon.

North of the county and Essex / Suffolk borders are all pretty

All good fun if traffic is not too heavy.

You're not joking are you Scouse, I've lived in Essex for 40 years and there's at least 4 places there I've never heard of!

Mind you I'm more the Basildump end than all these lovely villages.

Brad, you know it is my job to crawl around all of these pretty little villages, I also come across some cracking pubs that are off the beaten track. cool

Carl.

You might like to find somewhere else for refreshments....unless you like your beer flavoured with Avgas...take it from someone who lived opposite the Horshoes for a whole friggin month....

But the route, apart from that (and the glaring absence of the B1057) is pretty damn fine...just choose another boozer...
