Essex Pub help needed!
Discussion
Hi all.
I will be in Essex this coming Saturday and would like to find a nice pub for lunch.
The area I will be in is to the east of Manningtree/Lawford along the B1035/A120 route through to Harwich.
Ideally, a nice old fashioned country pub selling real ales and decent "pub grub" would be good, or perhaps a pub with a river setting.
Would prefer to avoid "hooray Henry" foodie pubs.
I've found the following three pubs but don't know if they are any good. They are:-
The Haywain at Little Bromley.
The Bricklayers Arms at Little Bentley.
The Maybush Inn at Great Oakley.
Any fresh ideas or advice about the three listed above would be really appreciated.
Thanks.
Scrubbie.

I can well recommend "The Sun" in Dedham, the pub sell's propper cask ales and has lots of character. The village is also stunning and also has the River Stour which runs through it.

If you can face going into a restaurant - there is the Mistley Thorn (in Mistley) and Lucca (in Manningtree); both excellent, both sensibly priced, both child friendly.
The Crown on the High st. In Manningtree might be what you are looking for; you can see the river from it; but I've never been in.
