Anyone from Dagenham in?
Discussion
Anyone know what is going on at the old Ford works just to the East of Dagenham Dock station?
There is a massive circus tent in the middle of a large patch of ground with a scaffold tower and platform on either side of the tent, a bit like the sort of tower you see at concerts where the lighting and sound technicians sit. Temporary floodlights have also arrived in the past couple of days along with 50 or so shipping containers that appear to be toilets and/or offices of some sort.
Just being nosey really but can't believe it is a decent location for a concert of any sort.

Is it a circus? Didn't see any flyers any where though.
I thought that initially when the tent started to go up but then it got too large for any circus I've seen recently and then the two "concert" towers popped up this week. Nothing on Google so guess I'll just watch things develop as I pass by on the train every morning.Gregory CooperS said:
from friends who live near by, they seem to think they will be practicing the Olympics opening and closing ceremonies there
really, thats handy, i now know where i'll be practising i've driven past it a couple of times, on my way to and from smithfield. in fact i'm doing a box of lamb into smithfield tonight, i will pay closer attention
had a nosey as i went by last night. def looks like a circus set up, (big tent gave it away)
noticed a fair few solid sided marquees aswell, and what appeared to be a spot light tower, the sort you get at gigs, festivals etc. i'd say looking at the area it covers, its prob not big enough for olympic rehearsals.
didn't spot any of the normal film crew wagons, or "star" trailers on site.
i reckon assuming where it is, i'd go with the launch idea.

couldnt see what was going on but there were hundreds of people there on sat afternoon.
Interesting, and just to keep this thread on the boil, I passed it again on the train this morning. The plot to the west of the big top appears to have had fresh tarmac put down in the past couple of days and the plot to the east of the big top had contractors with planing machines and rollers looking at it today so I assume it is going to get the same treatment. There was also what looked like extra large (read 2 or 3 times the size) shopping trolleys wrapped up and placed on the perimeter along with several extra large beds with headboards to the same size scale.I am now fascinated by developments as it breaks up the usual boring commute and nobody else on the train appears to have noticed it so far.
Last update for a little while as I am away on holiday from tomorrow.
As I went passed the site this morning the tarmac seems complete, some new big screens mounted on scaffold towers have been erected and a new temporary structure is being built - effectively a tall tunnel open at both ends. This sits between both large open tarmac areas and run at a 90 degree angle to the big top. There also appears to be a holding/warm up type area now in place made up of metal barriers and containers of various sizes.
I'll keep an eye out when I'm back commuting on June 9th............unless it has served it's purpose and been pulled down by then.
