Anyone else on here use the A12 regularly during peak hours. Over the last few weeks, the number of people driving at 50mph (or below!) seems to be increasing rapidly and causing lots more congestion as the lorries have to overtake them.

Anyone know a reason people might be doing this? The only thing I can think of is trying to save fuel, but a few more MPG isn't going to make that much difference. What are they going to do when it needs a service or tyres etc. If you have to drive that slow to save money, then sell the car!!

I doubt your target audience will see this thread! hehe
I've noticed traffic on motorways slowing down for several years now. Anyone travelling over 90 sticks out like a sore thumb now. I presume it's mainly fuel related, combined with a fear of being nicked, although that doesn't explain the 50 MPH that you refer to.

Yes I've noticed this too. Mostly in the mornings - traffic's too heavy to notice it in the evening rush.
Like you I can only assune it's to "save fuel" rolleyes It probably means the rest of the traffic uses more fuel as they slow and then accelerate back up to a sensible speed.

I shall continue to mutter moron under my breath whenever I pass a dawdler.

The quality of driving and lane discipline on the A12 has always been woeful, but until recently the lorries didn't really cause too much trouble as they were in the inside lane (at 55-60) and the sheep were all following each other in the queue on the outside lane (at 40-70+!). Now the lorries are having overtake the moron's in the inside lane doing 50, and causing the average speed in the outside to drop even further!

My journey when the kids are on holiday usually takes 1hr 10 minutes but so far this week it has taken a minimum of 1hr 30-40mins. When the kids are back it normally takes 1hr 40mins but last week my best was 1hr 55mins!

Agree that those doing this won't be reading PH (We all hope!) but wondered whether anyone else had noticed or knew of some vigilante group doing it for another reason.

I guess I'll just continue to get annoyed, call them 'morons' (not the word I use)and put up with the stupidly congested roads we have in this country.

Using the new signs they've put up to say 'Keep Left' might help but I doubt it!

Noticed this on the 130 too. PITA as lorry drivers always seem to overtake just as they start the climb heading towards the turnpike.
