Hi All

Need to take someone out for lunch between Christmas and New Year somewhere around Tonbridge. Nothing too fancy, in fact fish and chips would be fine if its good.

Any good recomendations please? Bearing in mind we'd like it to have some atmosphere and between Christmas and New Year places may not be that busy.

Many thanks

The Carpenter Arms, which is outside Tonbridge. It does lovely food- even cod 'n' chips.

I've been there a few times, it's always been nice, the staff are friendly, food is great and you can eat in the bar or restaurant.

There is a Beefeater or such like attached to the Premier Inn North Tonbridge. Standard steakhouse/pub grub.

Been here numerous times, always very good, friendly staff and a decent sized car park.
Just been reminded they have a lovely log fire in the cooler months smile

Hah! I know it well. I first went there about forty years ago and grew up within a couple of miles of it. Wouldn't have known it was good now though (used to be a bit uninspiring back in the day).

Thanks. I think that might be just the ticket.

That's your pick there. If you can get a table in teh room/library then it is very good indeed.

+2... but book, and be prepared for a bit of a walk if you don't go early. Not far, but if the weathers bad the ladies won't thank you

Do you mean that most of the time it's so-so but when YOU go there it's excellent? You are the pub singer and I claim my five pounds wink

Been to all the above, and the Chaser or The Carpenters would get my vote - always have to book the Chaser though.

Also, The Poacher between Capel and Golden Green is nice - its had a few chefs over the years but always seems to turn out some decent food. Good beer too.

+1 for The Carpenters Arms. Prefer it to the Chaser. Anyone local to it? I'm only two mins from there.

A notch above fish and chips, but I am surprised no one has mentioned the Swan on the Green at West Peckham. It is a little bit further out (10-15 minutes from Tonbridge) but the food is excellent and they brew their own beers.
