Costs associated with importing German cars from the UK

Hi folks,

I have been extremely surprised at the cost of German cars in NZ so, was wondering what costs would be involved to ship German cars to NZ from the UK? Thanks in advance.

If you're importing new, or nearly new ones from the UK, it should be very easy compliance wise - UK cars will almost always have EC compliance plates and EC Certificates of Conformity which are accepted here.

No offence but you're the zillionth person to ask this question here. As Lestag said, search this forum(import tax gst) and you'll find detailed answers. As a rough guide, take the purchase cost in pounds and triple it to get the cost to have it landed in NZ$ after shipping, tax, etc.

Triple seems far more than I have found. I have been quoted for £1250 for shipping + 15% GST when imported. What other costs have I missed?

It's not a simple answer because it depends on your circumstances. I found these threads for you using the PH search function. There are links to NZTA (DVLA) fact sheets with info for importers.
